The Speaking Out Youth Group have created their own rules that they feel are important for them all to follow when they are at their club.
After the members have discussed and planned their programme Jake one of their members puts the programme together for them. Many thanks to Jake.

SPEAKING OUT YOUTH CLUB

This group is a lively, enthusiastic and friendly group of young people, aged 14 to 18 years that meet each Thursday in the Mencap centre. The atmosphere created at the club is that of any youth club in any town or village.

2.50 subs plus some weeks there may be an activity charge.

Young people with learning disabilities are young people first with all the same ideas and wishes, likes and dislikes, emotions, hormones and mood swings. This club has it all and so it should.

Their biggest achievement is the atmosphere they create in their club. Through the diversity of activities, where so many opportunities are given to young people to participate in games, sports, cooking, art, music, discussions and decision making. But also through the general feeling of young people hanging out together as they all love to do. Chatting, chilling, and being cool.

The group is supported by staff that encourages young people to make their own decisions, and be as independent as possible. They ensure everyone can participate and is included. Young people are respected, valued and listened to. Relationships of trust are built up to encourage young people to express and understand their feelings in a positive way.  Young people are helped to understand their adolescence and the changes they are experiencing as they grow up.
Staff has a link officer assigned to the club from the Youth Service who is available to offer advice. Programmes devised with young people aim to achieve outcomes identified within the targets of Every Child Matters.  To Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy and Achieve, Make a Positive Contribution and Achieve Economic Well-being.

With increasing numbers this club is gaining popularity.
Young people should be encouraged to join. They will not look back!
